Welcome to the FarSighted Newsletter
From Wayne M. Adams, Chair, SNIA Board of Directors

Thank you for your interest in the SNIA's FarSighted newsletter. The summer is certainly a busy time for our organization, as we prepare for the upcoming SNIA Storage Developer Conference (SDC) and Storage Networking World (SNW) events with new and exciting content to share.

In recent months, the SNIA has continued to move forward to address new areas with the formation of the Hypervisor Technical Work Group (TWG) and the Cloud Computing TWG, as well as the expansion of the Ethernet Storage Forum, and addressing the issues of consumer storage through the Solid State Storage Initiative. In addition, notable standards milestones have just been achieved on the Common RAID Disk Data Format Specification, the Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S), and the eXtensible Access Method (XAM) specification.

The SNIA's commitment to collaboration across the industry has been evident through our ongoing participation in efforts like the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) green storage meetings, cloud computing mini-summits, new alliances like the SCRM Cloud Standards Coordination Wiki, as well as our Data Management Forum (DMF)/XAM Initiative cross-industry pollination. We've also seen the SNIA produce critical pieces of new thought leadership: the DMF Terminology Bridge and the SSIF's work on the Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP).

Our education programs continue to expand, with the addition of a new sales-oriented certification, and we've added free, industry-leading Webcasts as our newest educational tool. Internationally, the SNIA remains active around the globe. Geographies including Brazil, Europe, and Japan have offered numerous events and road shows in their region, and SNIA China has published its first book.

All of this is made possible through your continued support. So let me take a moment to say thank you, and we look forward to seeing you at SDC, SNW, and other industry events this Fall.
